Abraham And Lot & Sodom and Gomorrah

I’ve always been fascinated with the story of Lot and Abraham, and ponder it often. When I first read the story of Lot’s escape (Genesis 19) I was horrified to see he offered up his daughters for sex, in his attempt to defend the angels he was entertaining, unaware. Sometimes bible stories are a little shocking!

The two men who came to stay with him were really Angels sent to destroy Sodom And Gomorrah, as he found out later.

Prior to this, in Genesis 13, we see how Lot came to be in this place. Abraham (Abram at that time) and he were havng disagreements, as the land was not large enough to accomodate both of their families, and herds. Abram suggested they seperate, to stop the quarrelling. Incidentally, Abram’s name was changed to Abraham (by God himself) In Genesis 17.

Abram means “exalted Father” where Abraham means “Father of Multitudes.”. All that aside, he generously told Lot he could choose first, if he would go to the right or the left, and Abram (his uncle) would go the other way. Lot chose the pleasant looking land, (in my mind, being a little selfish)

While Abram had a surrendered attitude towards God. 2 Peter 2-8 describes Lot as a “righteous man” so I really pressed in toward God (many years ago) In Prayer. “How can he be righteous?” I Inquired boldly toward the Lord. “He was going to let the men “have their way” with his daughters, he chose the better (more pleasant land) and he did not (like Abram) Build and Altar when he got to his new home.

God honored Abram’s prayers and saved him, but here is what the Lord pointed out to me “Lot was distressed and vexed, over the depraved conduct of the people of Sodom and Gomorrah.”

His heart was not in alignment with the wickedness going on around him. And yet, he had to live there, because it was the place he had chosen to be. God notices, when he sees righteousness in a person.

Maybe you aren’t all the way there, maybe you are not “Perfect” and perhaps not as obedient as someone else (such as Abraham) but God will STILL give you credit for at least having your feet in the waters of life.🙏Abraham challenges us to go deeper…….

In Fact, if we really did recieve the gift of Salvation Jesus died for, he sees you are righteous, right now. That does not mean however, that you will not be challenged to make a different choice than whatever you have done in the past.

Lot got a clear warning from two angels (sent by God) “Get out of this city, God is going to destroy it.” In Matthew 11:20-24, Jesus mentions Sodom and Gomorrah again, as he says…

“For if the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.” Let that sink in for a moment.

Therefore, we have a bit of a clue, as to why we don’t see miracles as often as we’d like. There is great responsiblity that goes with seeing miracles.

God is merciful and kind, but he is also “Righteous Judge” and he is not a pushover. He expects His loving kindness toward you to lead to repentance.

“Father, let the Holy Fear and reverance toward you, return to your people today,” In Jesus’ name……..I pray. “Wake up” those who slumber to realize you are Holy, that you don’t always “get down to our level” but lift us up to see YOUR Viewpoint on things we don’t understand.” In Jesus’ name! AMEN

Who are you listening to?

Be careful who you listen to: by Laura Grace (Book of Sermons)

Criticism: The word means a type of judgment or analysis, or it can be fault finding.

There are two main kinds, destructive and constructive:

The destructive kind will make you feel small, ashamed, and defensive. Furthermore, it will leave you feeling hopeless. 😢

Jesus was constructive when he talked to the churches in Revelation 2. He told them what they did right (first) then he specifically spoke of what grieved him, and what to do about it.

He gave them hope, He gave them a solution. He was talking to HIS people! Lord, help us to not be a voice that brings shame, condemnation or hopelessness! EVER!! In Jesus’ name!! AMEN 🔥🔥

Rev 2 “Unto the angel of the church of Ephesus write; These things saith he that holdeth the seven stars in his right hand, who walketh in the midst of the seven golden candlesticks;

2 I know thy works, and thy labour, and thy patience, and how thou canst not bear them which are evil: and thou hast tried them which say they are apostles, and are not, and hast found them liars:

3 And hast borne, and hast patience, and for my name’s sake hast laboured, and hast not fainted. 4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.” Then he says “Consider, and repent.” 🙏🔥

He urges us to repent (turn around, change our mind) but he always does it in love. Jesus is not the author of shame or condemnation.

If someone left you feeling hopeless, it was not of God. I don’t care who they think they are or how right they believe themselves to be. Let your first love be Jesus. Allow him to erase the shame.

We need to take accountability for who we listen to, who we give heed to, and tune in to the voice of the Shepherd, Jesus himself! Eventually he will ask, who were you listening to? And why? 🙏🥰

Isaiah 55:3 “Incline your ear, and come to me; listen to me, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you.”

Little Kids in Big Kids’ clothing! A message about immaturity …

For too long, Christians have often looked through the lens of “sin or no sin” instead of realizing there is a passage in scripture that says: 1 Corn 13:11 talks about “reasoning as a child, thinking as a child, and when I became a man, I put away childish things.” Here are a few signs of an immature Christian:

  1. Wanting to be important over being a servant to all. Power hungry, a bit over-bearing. Controlling
  2. Not willing to let God out of the box, afraid to try new things as the Lord directs. “Stuck.” Fearful.
  3. Not skilled in using the sword (the word of God) cutting people, making them bleed. Reckless.
  4. Not understanding the discipline of God is a good thing. Mad about discipline. Pouting, acting out.
  5. Not settled on the idea of surrender, and growing up IN Christ and allowing him to shape them.
  6. Believing they know a lot of scripture and have arrived and are now policemen of everyone else.
  7. Prideful, know-it-alls, rebellious, scared to look at themselves in the mirror, wanting what they want “right now” In the natural instead of allowing God to do the work that needs to be done, within them.

Now, that’s just a few “signs’ of an immature Christian. Is Pride, rebellion, and all of that sin? Well, yes but we are born into sin. Jesus took the punishment, redeemed us, and says we are righteous “in Him.”

Baby Christians need a lot of guidance, and maybe need to be counselled, advised, prayed for, fed milk, spoon fed some scriptures that hold them steady (and feed them) but eventually, they should learn to feed themselves, maybe even make their own mashed potatoes and gravy (from bible scriptures they feed on) and then learn how to feed others. That in itself, is a serving process that we need to learn.

You can (if you want to) call yourself a Christian and servant by slamming down a scripture in front of a person, calling it food, and walk away feeling justified if they don’t eat it, because they don’t feel the love.

Jesus took his disciples on a three-to-four-year journey, having them follow him, do things with him, and personally counselled them in each and every situation they faced. For example, when he fed the 5000, he said in Matthew 15, he did not want to send them away hungry, for they had not eaten in three days. His compassion for them was directly linked to the fact: They had followed and listened to him for three days.

Immature Christians take this story and interpret it to mean Jesus wants to do miracles for the whole world, so we better get out there and start doing miraculous feedings for 5000 people.

I challenge you to read the New Testament as if it were a story (at least once). Just walk through it and ask God to show you how Jesus responded to every situation, and why. No agenda to gain a promise you can stand on, no wanting to find out what “sin” you are in, just be an observer and study how he trained the original 12 disciples. Begin to gain “The mind of Christ” In that scenario and see what you can see (from there). Let’s not read scriptures and assume we see. Ask the Holy Spirit to HELP You see!

It’s not too late. For far too long, we have gobbled up scripture and falsely called it knowledge. We turn around and use it to bop people over the head for not being as “righteous as we are.” God doesn’t need any moral policemen to go around pointing boney fingers at their sin. They need to be reconciled to God.

A child in a policeman’s hat has no real authority! They can pretend, talk big, and maybe fool a few other kids, but in reality, they are just playing at something they have not yet “Grown into.”

And everyone can see it.

Messy Christianity…..

Every day life as a Christian🙂 It gets messy sometimes .How to pay the bills, believing for a miracle! I have a tire on my car right now that needs replaced, I wanted to travel, and can’t. Is it my fault?

Every time I go to the store the prices seem higher. What cost 5.00 a few months ago is 10.00. I had illness, unexpected this, unexpected that. I think ONE THING we need to remember today, is nothing surprises God. He saw it all coming……..

One of the reasons people love “prophetic words” is they want to know what’s coming. They are tired of being taken off gaurd. I know just recently I was struggling with something big I never saw coming and I wrestle with God over it. “Why Didn’t you TELL ME?”

I just can’t believe sometimes God “let this happen” (certain things) when I know he was powerful enough to stop it! The main thing is forgiving ourselves, for our part in the collateral damage. “if Only I had known Father” “I prayed, I asked you what to do! Why do I find myself in this MESS!!!? ……..

What we forget, is that God PAID the price through Jesus for your whole growing up process. When he said you are REDEEMED that means you are bought with a price (his Blood!!). And He is NOT going to let you go, just because you messed up. He gives us more grace, and when the time comes to give out Grace, yes he’s going to expect us to give it. None of this “I’m a self made person” and I had to “save myself” so YOU Do TOO!! ……He isn’t into all that.

He wants our testimony to be “I SAVED YOU” from yourself your mistakes, your disasters, your “own wisdom” and now you go, and preach my gospel of Grace to others. What you have been given “freely give”………

So Father, for every time my flesh rose up and wanted to punish anyone for hurting me, forgive me. I’ve hurt plenty of people in my time, when I was bumbling around being a “Messy Christian” ….Help me Recieve Grace, Give Grace, and preach the gospel of grace. We are saved by your Unmerritted Favor Father! May we never forget, and if we do “SPANK US!!” ….amen! Your friend and fellow traveller,

The Fragrance of Jesus…….Guest Post

My guest post is from John Garfield today. I met him years ago. and I was prophecied over that I would have to move (it’s in my book Grace to the Rescue) that there would be nothing I could do about it. And that is exactly what happened. I was forced to move and took my children to Minnesota, where I was eventually delivered from a very bad situation. Another “word” God gave me through this man was that I would be doing something creative that would bless my children somehow.

I was very poor, living in housing, and I started a floral business, and also learned to do floral design through a company that would send me kits and videos. My children saw me overcoming and pursuing my dream, even though I had every reason to just give up at that point in time. When I finally got all the flowers done to sell, I was in the mall selling flowers with my then 12 year old son, and learned my daughter had ran away from home. I left him in charge as I pursued her and got her out of the carnival trailer she was hiding in, ready to run off with them. I remember how I used that authority I learned about in church. “Produce my daughter” I said to the carnival workers that were hiding her,” Or I will call the cops!”

Indeed, they did produce her. John has always talked about desires of your heart and God wanting to use your dreams, gifts and talents for his glory (among other things) but today’s message from him is just really special, so I am sharing it with you. I’ve been super busy, and hope to get back to posting here more often.

With Love, Your sister and fellow follower of Jesus Christ,

Potatoes and Gravy!

The bible talks about the sincere “Milk of the Word” that as for those not ready for meat. What does that mean? Some concepts in the bible are hard for people to swallow (or even chew). It doesn’t mean there is something wrong with you, You just aren’t ready for it yet.

My daughter started wanting more than milk, so I gave her rice cereal, and soon that wasn’t keeping her full, so I gave her potatoes and gravy. I only gave her a few bites to make sure it wouldn’t make her sick, but then when I saw she ate it and was happy (and slept good) It was added to her menu!

One day when she got older, she started really liking steak! the word of God is food to our souls (God said so) and was never meant to be a thing we use to “Lord over others.”

It’s my aim (and goal) to write messages and books that are food to the soul! For some this is hard to grasp, they want power scriptures or magic wands. I tried to get around growing and curtail God’s plan for me at one time, it didn’t go too well! In My daily life, I was always aware of my “need to Grow’ and be able to handle EVERY aspect of life with his help!

The only way this can really happen is if we grow in Grace and the knowledge of him (In every area) otherwise we end up “spiritually dysfunctional” and it’s not Gods’ best for us!

Love you all! Laura Grace, Author Grace to grow And this text is revised and contains a study guide.

You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word. You are like babies who need milk and cannot eat solid food. Hebrews 5:12

“Give me Understanding, Lord”

Don't be like a horse or a mule, the bible says, "Ask for Understanding" so you can be spirit led.

“You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him drink.”

I know we’ve all heard that saying! Truly, I have my times too, when I can be stubborn. I find it interesting Jesus “Rode’ a donkey but think about this for a minute:

We don’t have to drink in God’s word. We don’t have to ‘seek him on every decision.” I am so thankful I had a preacher in my life to challenge me, years ago, to seek God about everything I do, and every decision I make. I’m so glad he preached righteousness to me (Right Standing with God).

Through the years, I’ve watched people mock, say thing like “Gosh Laura you don’t have to pray about everything!!” Yes, I do, if I want to have success! Sometimes they get to me so I don’t pray and whatever I’m doing falls to pieces…

Putting God first takes diligence, hard work to exercise our minds and heart to do his bidding. Remember YOU DON”T HAVE TO but Athletes who train get better results…..

And those who continue to have to be bridled and led, who lay their ears back and fight God’s leading…….

Wlll not have the victories they hope to have IN HIM.

A loving word about religion vs relationship….

I have a facebook friend, her name is Kathy Mote. I’ve followed her writings for years now, as she posts what God puts on her heart to say. In her I see relationship, and not religion, and its’ obvious to me her relationship with God is flourishing!

I am sharing what she posted on Facebook today, because it really grabbed my heart when I read it. My thought was, “What a loving way to address the subject of relationship over religion.” This is my heart and what I write about it my books, that relationship is everything! Particularily in my book “Grace to Grow.”

I’m trusting you will enjoy Kathy’s Post, and be truly blessed. -Laura

For days I have been heavy of heart, hearing a heavy message from our Father. I awake each morning dreading the release of this message, but as I surrender, He makes my heart right with Him. He said that in the absence of His very real presence, our thinking has too low of a ceiling. I am paraphrasing. He said you can’t tell people that, because they think they have Him right where they want Him in their religious thinking and they are comfortable with this.

The way we view the Bible in our carnal minds is superstitious. There is no power without Him. We see our natural environment as all there is, but He is the power that drives it. In short, our natural thinking and perspective is backwards and limited, fractured and fragmented but He is seamlessly powerful. His desire to bring us up gently and into His arms without signs and wonders and the knowledge of all things is also obvious. He greatly desires for our hearts to trust in Him.”

God’s Unconditional Love……..

God doesn’t want us sin-conscious, he wants us God-Conscious. See, the reason Adam and Eve Knew they were naked, is they ate from the tree Of the knowledge Of Good and evil! Prior to this, they were just “Innocent.” (Even if Naked!).

Now, if they needed to be clothed for some reason, God would have told them, because they were in fellowship, with him.

God and them would fellow-ship and everything was hunky dunky When we have to decide for ourselves what is good (or evil) that’s what seperates us from God!

When we realize how much God loves us, it’s so easy to love him back! Seriously! it is.

So then, if we are God Conscious, we are all in love with him!! (Because we KNOW (intimately, or first-hand) How much he loves US.

When we are sin-conscious, we worry all the time if God is upset with us, or if we are being punished, And that is what some people will teach us to do. People who don’t know God, who see themselves as prophets (and teachers).

No wonder Paul said “who has bewitched you?,” You were running a good race? “Who cut in on you?”

He also said…..”I wish they would cut themselves off!!” (Book of Galations)

Being led by the Spirit is such a beautiful thing!

We don’t live in that Old Testament “prophets” showing up- telling- us- we- are- in- sin type of time. We live in a world of Grace, thousands of angels rejoicing! full of light, full of wonder! and full, I might add of the glory of God!

Remember falling in love? all you could think of is how you are dressed! do you smell good? All you could think of is being with your beloved……and wanting to please them…….right?

Some of these get married and, being in love and wanting to please turns into “fear of upsetting their spouse” (because they are always upset at them about something. do you see how the relationship dynamic changes then?

People who love God do not “intentionally sin” they are in training with the master, and they are his children, and he says what their priority is right now, not man.

It’s not good. A good counsellor will show them how to be in love again. It works the same with God………

Just as God told Adam and Eve NOT to eat from that tree, born again believers are told by God (by his Spirit) what to partake of or not partake of. Yes, you can exhort people, but ultimately what a person does IS between them and God.

-Laura Grace

1 John 3:8-10 “He who sins is of the devil, for the devil has sinned from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil. Whoever has been born of God does not sin, for His seed remains in him; and he cannot sin, because he has been born of God.”
